  • Want a purely theoretical qualification with no practical assessment component
  • Need to qualify in under 4 weeks
  • Are not currently working or volunteering in a vocational training environment
  • Want a qualification that also covers internal quality assurance, which is a separate IQA qualification
About this qualification

What you'll learn

Every NVQ, apprenticeship and vocational qualification in the UK depends on qualified assessors, the people who observe learners in the workplace, review their evidence and confirm they meet the required standard. The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, widely known as CAVA, is the qualification that lets you do this role.

This Level 3 qualification is awarded by TQUK and quality-assured by Ofqual. It covers the principles and practice of assessment, including how to plan assessment, use different assessment methods, make fair and consistent judgements, and give constructive feedback to learners.

What you'll need

Entry requirements

You need to be occupationally competent in the subject area you plan to assess, usually through relevant work experience or a vocational qualification.

You must have access to at least two learners you can assess as part of a real or simulated vocational qualification, since practical assessment is a mandatory part of CAVA.

There is no minimum study commitment, though most learners spend 4 to 6 hours a week to complete within 3 to 6 months.
