Boundaries move slightly each year, but AQA's published grade boundaries for the June 2026 series (out of 240 marks in total) are a useful guide. On Higher tier, grade 4 needed 63 marks (roughly 26%) and grade 5 needed 97 marks (roughly 40%). On Foundation tier, grade 4 needed 154 marks (roughly 64%) and grade 5 needed 187 marks (roughly 78%). Higher tier assesses harder material, so a lower share of the total marks earns the same grade.
In most cases yes. Nursing and midwifery degrees typically require GCSE Maths at grade 4 (grade C) or above alongside English and often a science. Primary and secondary teacher training in England requires GCSE Maths, English and (for primary) a science at grade 4 or above.
