A grade 4 in GCSE English Language is one of the most commonly requested entry requirements in the UK, whether you are applying to university, starting nursing or teacher training, or meeting the English requirement for an apprenticeship. Our online GCSE English course is built for adults who need to pass, or improve, this qualification without going back into a school classroom.

The course is awarded by AQA and quality-assured by Ofqual under the same national 9 to 1 grading scale used in schools. There are no formal entry requirements to start this course. It is designed for adults of any age who need a GCSE English Language qualification.

You will need to register separately as a private candidate with an approved exam centre to sit the final written exams, usually a small additional fee payable directly to the centre.

Assessment

How you're assessed

GCSE English Language is assessed through two written exam papers, set and marked by AQA, focused on reading comprehension and analysis, plus a range of writing tasks.

A non-exam spoken language endorsement is also usually completed with your tutor, though it is reported separately and does not affect your overall grade.
