Lift vs traditional training

How a Lift College cohort compares with building training in-house or running it through an apprenticeship route.

Comparison of Lift College, in-house L&D and apprenticeship routes across six common decision factors.
FactorLift CollegeIn-house L&DApprenticeship
Setup timeLive within 48 hours of contract sign-off for small cohorts.Weeks to months to design materials and book trainers.Weeks to months for provider selection and ESFA registration.
Admin overheadOne dashboard, one adviser, one invoice.Ongoing content upkeep, trainer scheduling, internal tracking.Off-the-job evidence logs, ESFA compliance paperwork, gateway reviews.
FundingSelf-funded, no levy or ESFA dependency.Fully self-funded, no external funding route available.Apprenticeship Levy or co-investment, subject to eligibility rules.
Cohort flexibilityStaggered start dates, mix qualifications on one account.Flexible in theory, constrained by trainer and room availability.Fixed cohort windows tied to provider and standard timetables.
Cost predictabilityPublished per-seat pricing, one line on a purchase order.Variable: trainer day rates, materials, venue and staff time.Levy spend plus internal off-the-job time, harder to isolate as a cost.

Frequently asked by UK employers

Further questions from procurement, compliance and HR teams that go beyond our main FAQ above.

  • How do we prove learning outcomes to auditors or regulators?

Every learner receives an awarding-body certificate on completion, and the employer dashboard keeps a permanent record of enrolment dates, progress and completion for each seat. You can export this as a CSV for CQC, Ofsted or internal audit evidence at any time.

  • Can we see a demo of the employer dashboard before signing up?

Yes. Book a discovery call and your adviser will walk through a live dashboard demo, including enrolment, progress tracking and CSV export, before you commit to anything.

  • Can Lift College go through our procurement process?

Yes. We regularly work with procurement teams and can complete supplier questionnaires, provide insurance and compliance documents, and issue purchase-order-based invoicing rather than card payment.

  • How is learner data handled under GDPR?

Learner data is processed under UK GDPR. We act as data processor for enrolment and progress data, with a data processing agreement available on request. Data is stored on UK and EU-based infrastructure and is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing.

  • What is the cancellation policy for an employer account?

You can cancel future enrolments at any time with no ongoing contract. Learners already part-way through a qualification can complete their course, or you can discuss a pause with your account adviser.

  • Are your tutors qualified to teach their subject?

Yes. Every tutor holds a relevant subject qualification and, where applicable, an assessor or teaching qualification such as a Level 3 Award in Education and Training. Tutors are UK-based and matched to learners by subject specialism.

  • Are Lift College qualifications recognised and quality-assured?

Yes. The large majority of our qualifications sit on the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). A small number of professional and Access to HE courses are quality-assured by other UK bodies, such as the Access to HE Quality Assurance Agency. Each course page states the awarding body and regulator.

  • Is delivery fully online, or is there an on-site element?

Delivery is fully online by default, which is what most employers choose for flexibility around shifts. For some practical healthcare units, a small number of awarding bodies require an observed or on-site assessment component. Your adviser will flag this during the discovery call if it applies to your chosen qualifications.
