About this qualification

What you'll learn

GCSE Biology is required or strongly preferred for many nursing, healthcare, teacher training and science-related university and college applications in the UK, and adult learners often need it as a standalone science GCSE alongside Maths and English. Our online GCSE Biology course is built for adults who need to pass, or improve, this qualification without going back into a school classroom.

The course is awarded by AQA, one of the UK’s largest exam boards, and quality-assured by Ofqual under the same national 9 to 1 grading scale used in schools. All teaching, revision material and practice papers are delivered online, so you can study at whatever pace suits your schedule, working through topics including cell biology, organisation, infection and response, bioenergetics, homeostasis, inheritance and ecology.

Assessment

How you're assessed

GCSE Biology is assessed through two written exam papers set and marked by AQA, sat at the end of your course of study, each covering different topic areas from the specification.

Practical skills and knowledge from the Required Practical activities are examined within the written papers themselves, worth at least 15% of the overall marks, rather than through a separately graded practical assessment.
