GCSE guide

Quick answer: Lift College teaches seven Pearson Edexcel International GCSE courses online from £39.99 a month per subject on Study, or from £69.99 a month on +Exams with your Pearson entry and Tutors & Exams centre fee included, after a 7-day free trial with £0 charged until day 8. Open Study College, NEC and CloudLearn also teach Edexcel IGCSEs online, at fixed fees of £410 to £470 per subject at full price (checked 22 October 2026), with exam fees extra unless you buy an exam package. All four sit the same Pearson Edexcel papers, so the choice comes down to how you pay, who books your exam, and which exam series you can use.

Who this comparison is for

An International GCSE (usually shortened to IGCSE) is the Pearson Edexcel version of a GCSE, graded 9 to 1 and sat in international schools worldwide. Adults in the UK choose it for three reasons: every subject is examined only, with no coursework, no required practicals and no spoken language endorsement; Pearson runs January and November series as well as June, so you are not tied to one exam window a year; and the papers are accepted by UK universities, colleges and employers, and count for the 16 to 19 funding condition in English and maths.

If a college or employer asks specifically for a qualification on the Ofqual register, choose the GCSE route instead. Lift College teaches twelve AQA GCSE courses online on the same subscription, and the guide GCSE vs IGCSE: the differences that matter walks through the decision.

How we compared providers

We read each provider's IGCSE listing and course pages on 22 October 2026 and recorded the full price per subject, how you pay, whether exam entry is included, the length of tutor support and what the page says about trials or refunds. Where a page does not state something we say "Not on the page" rather than guess. Prices change often, so confirm on each provider's site before you enrol.

All four providers above use Pearson Edexcel International GCSE specifications on the pages we read. The subject codes at Lift College are 4MA1 Mathematics, 4EB1 English Language, 4ET1 English Literature, 4BI1 Biology, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4PH1 Physics and 4SD0 Science Double Award.

What the price actually buys you

Exam entry is the hidden cost. Pearson entry plus a private candidate centre fee can add a few hundred pounds per subject on top of a fixed course fee. Lift College's +Exams plan and Open Study College's £929 package build it in; NEC and CloudLearn charge it separately or send you to book it yourself.

Pay-as-you-study versus fixed fee. A fixed fee of £410 to £470 suits a learner who wants one payment and a long support window. A monthly subscription suits a learner who expects to finish in nine to twelve months, wants to stop paying when the exam is done, or is studying two or three subjects at once. At £39.99 a month, twelve months of Study at Lift College is twelve monthly payments, so the break-even against a fixed fee sits at around a year.

Exam series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs run in January, June and November. A provider that books your seat for you removes the task of finding a centre that will take a private candidate in the series you want.

Regulation. International GCSEs are not on the Ofqual register. They are accepted by UK universities, colleges and employers, but if you need the Ofqual-regulated version for a specific application, every provider above also sells AQA or Edexcel GCSEs.

Which IGCSE course should you choose?

  • You want to try before you pay and have the exam booked for you: Lift College on +Exams, from £69.99 a month per subject, starting with the 7-day free trial. • You want a fixed fee with the longest tutor window and will book your own exam: NEC, at £470 with up to 24 months of support.

Frequently asked questions

Are online IGCSE courses recognised in the UK?
Yes. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs are accepted by UK universities, sixth forms, colleges and employers, and count for the 16 to 19 funding condition in English and maths. They are not on the Ofqual register, so check whether a specific application asks for an Ofqual-regulated GCSE.
How much does an online IGCSE course cost in the UK?
Fixed course fees at the providers we checked on 22 October 2026 run from £410 to £470 per subject, with exam entry extra unless you buy a package. Lift College charges £39.99 a month per subject on Study or from £69.99 a month on +Exams with the exam entry and centre fee included.
Can adults sit IGCSE exams as private candidates?
Yes. You sit the papers at an exam centre that accepts private candidates, in the January, June or November series. On Lift College's +Exams plan the entry is made for you and your seat is booked at a Tutors & Exams centre in England.
Which online IGCSE course is cheapest?
On a fixed fee, CloudLearn's £410 IGCSE Maths is the lowest full price we found, before exam fees. On a subscription, Lift College's Study plan at £39.99 a month is the lowest monthly price, and the total depends on how many months you study.
Can I study an IGCSE from 14 as a home educator?
Yes. Lift College enrols learners from 14 with a parent or guardian on the account for under 18s, and the examined-only format suits home educated students who cannot access school practicals or speaking assessments.
