Nine centres across England. One partner. Your seat booked for you.
The hardest part of studying an International A Level outside school has always been the exam. Lift College and Tutors & Exams remove it: you study online with us, and you sit the same Pearson Edexcel papers as any school candidate at a professional Tutors & Exams centre, with your entry, venue and invigilation arranged through the partnership.
Runs in January. All six units are available, so you can sit your first units early in the year.
Runs from May to June. The main series, where most learners sit their final units.
Runs in October. All six units are available, a good fit for a resit or an early first unit.
On +Exams we enter you before Pearson's deadline for the series you choose.
Start your free trial, meet your named UK tutor and work through the Pearson Edexcel specification at your own pace.
On +Exams, Lift College submits your Pearson Edexcel entry and books your place at the Tutors & Exams centre you choose, before the entry deadline.
Trained invigilators, a room built for formal assessment, and a Pearson Edexcel certificate identical to a school candidate's.
This course is for you if
- You want a maths qualification at A Level standard that UK universities accept for entry to maths, engineering, computing, physics, economics and finance degrees.
- You want to sit exams in stages. Six shorter units across three series a year means you can enter each unit when you are ready and resit a single unit rather than the whole exam.
- You are home educated, studying outside the UK, or returning to study after a break, and want a UK awarding body exam you can sit at a UK centre.
Entry requirements
- Open to anyone aged 14 or over. Under 18s enrol with a parent or guardian's permission and support. There are no formal entry qualifications.
- Recommended starting point: a grade 6 or above at GCSE or International GCSE Mathematics, or equivalent. This is recommended, not required, and the first unit revises the algebra you need before moving on.
- A computer, tablet or phone with internet access, a scientific calculator (not one with symbolic algebra, differentiation or integration), a ruler and a protractor. The Pearson formulae booklet is provided in every exam.
- The ability to attend a Tutors & Exams centre in England for your written papers.
There is no minimum study time. Most learners spend 6 to 8 hours a week and finish in 18 to 24 months, or faster if you study more each week. Assignments are for feedback and do not count towards your grade; the qualification is 100% examined.
How this differs from A Level Mathematics
Modular rather than linear: six shorter unit exams sat in any order across three series a year, with single-unit resits, instead of three papers in one summer. There is no coursework on either qualification.
| Aspect | This international course | A Level Mathematics |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Modular. Six units of 1 hour 30 minutes sat in any order, with the option to stop at International AS. | Linear. Three papers of 2 hours all sat in one May/June series at the end of the course. |
| Resits | Resit any single unit. The better of your two most recent attempts counts. | The whole qualification is resat in a later May/June series. |
| Exam series | January, May/June and October. | May/June only. |
| Grades and UCAS Tariff | A* to E. No Tariff points, but UK universities accept it for entry; check your chosen course. | A* to E. Carries UCAS Tariff points. |
| UK regulator's register | Not listed. An international qualification from Pearson Edexcel, a UK awarding body. | Listed. |

Every unit ends with marked, exam style questions. Before each entry you sit a full timed mock for that unit with written feedback.
On +Exams your unit entries, your final cash-in and your seat at a Tutors & Exams centre are booked for you and the fees are included.
How you are assessed
Six written unit exams, each 1 hour 30 minutes and 75 marks, all questions compulsory. Each unit counts for one sixth of the International A Level. Units can be sat in any order and in different series; any unit can be resat and the higher of the two results is used. A calculator is allowed and the Pearson formulae booklet is provided. There is no coursework.

Is an International A Level the same as an A Level?
It is at the same standard, graded A* to E, and set and marked by Pearson Edexcel, a UK awarding body. It is the International A Level sat in international schools worldwide rather than the A Level sat in English sixth forms. UK universities accept it for entry, but always check the specific requirements of the course you have in mind.
How old do I need to be?
Open to anyone aged 14 or over. Under 18s enrol with a parent or guardian's permission and support. There are no formal entry qualifications.
Why six units rather than three papers?
Pearson Edexcel International A Levels are modular. You sit six unit exams of 1 hour 30 minutes each, in any order, across January, June and October series. If one unit goes badly you can resit that unit alone and the higher of the two results is used. Once all six are done, your results are combined for the final grade.
Which units does this course cover?
Pure Mathematics 1 to 4, which are compulsory, plus Mechanics 1 and Statistics 1. That is one of the unit combinations Pearson accepts for the full International A Level in Mathematics, and the combination most commonly taken.
Can I stop at International AS Level?
Yes. P1, P2 and one of M1 or S1 make up the International Advanced Subsidiary in Mathematics, graded A to E, and those results also count towards the full International A Level if you carry on.
Can I use a calculator?
Yes, in every unit. You need a scientific calculator. Calculators with symbolic algebra, symbolic differentiation or integration, or stored text are not allowed. The Pearson formulae booklet is provided in the exam.
When can I sit the exams?
Pearson Edexcel International A Level Mathematics units are examined in January, May/June and October. On +Exams we enter you for each unit and book your seat at one of the Tutors & Exams centres for the series you are ready for.
Where will I sit the exams?
At one of the nine Tutors & Exams centres in England approved for International A Levels. Use the centre finder to see your nearest. If you are outside the UK you would need to travel to a centre for each series.
What does the Study option include?
The full course, your named UK tutor, marked practice in every unit, mock papers and AI Study Support.
What if I stop paying?
You simply stop studying. There is no contract, no credit agreement and no debt. You can cancel from your account at any time and there is 14-day money back on every payment.
Does this qualification appear on the UK regulator's register?
No. It is set, examined and awarded by Pearson Edexcel, a UK awarding body, and is the International A Level taken in international schools worldwide, but Pearson states that its International A Levels are not regulated by a UK regulator. If you need a qualification on that register specifically, look at our A Level Mathematics course instead.
How much does International A Level Mathematics cost online?
International A Level Mathematics with Lift College is £449.99 a year or £49.99 a month on the Study plan when you pay today: pay for 9 months and get 3 free, with your price fixed for life. Every payment has a 14-day money back guarantee.
How long does International A Level Mathematics take online?
It typically takes 18 to 24 months online with a named UK tutor, or less if you study more each week. Pearson Edexcel International A Level Mathematics units are examined in January, May/June and October. You and your tutor choose the series you are ready for.
Can I start International A Level Mathematics today?
