Yes, you get a formula booklet in A Level Maths. In Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics (9MA0) it is a separate booklet called Mathematical Formulae and Statistical Tables, given out in all three papers. It covers pure maths, statistics and mechanics, including the binomial expansion, series sums, compound angle identities, further differentiation and integration results, the constant acceleration (suvat) equations and the statistical tables. It does not include the formulae listed in Appendix 1 of the specification, such as the quadratic formula, the laws of logarithms, the sine and cosine rules and the standard derivatives, which you must learn. AQA A Level Maths (7357), the specification Lift College teaches in its online A Level Maths course for £59.99 a month, provides its own formulae booklet.
What is in the Edexcel A-level Maths formula booklet?
Use the booklet issued for the current Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics (9MA0) specification; it is free on the Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics pages. The A Level Mathematics part has three sections, and the statistical tables are at the back of the booklet.

The same booklet also holds the AS Mathematics and Further Mathematics sections, and the statistical tables come at the end, after the Further Mathematics pages. Only the A Level Mathematics pages and the tables you are taught to use apply to 9MA0.
Where to download it
The booklet is free on the Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics page, under course materials. Print it and use it whenever you do past papers, so the layout is familiar before the real exam. Check you have the version for 9MA0, first examined in 2018.
What you must memorise
Appendix 1 of the Pearson specification lists the formulae you are expected to know, and none of them appears in the booklet:
- Pure: the quadratic formula; the laws of indices and logarithms; the gradient and equation of a straight line and perpendicular gradients; the nth term of arithmetic and geometric sequences; the sine rule, cosine rule and area ½ab sin C; sin²θ + cos²θ = 1 and the related identities; arc length and sector area; standard derivatives and integrals of xⁿ, sin kx, cos kx, eᵏˣ, ln x and 1/x, with the product and chain rules; the magnitude of a vector.
- Statistics: the mean, and the standardisation Z = (X − μ)/σ.
- Mechanics: weight = mg, friction F ≤ μR, Newton's second law F = ma, and calculus for variable acceleration.
Practise with the booklet open from the start, learn where each result sits, and write the Appendix 1 formulae from memory until they are automatic.
How to use the booklet in the exam
Know the layout before you start
The booklet is short, but time spent hunting through it is time lost. Know which page holds which section.
Do not use it instead of understanding
It gives you Newton-Raphson, but not when to use it or why an iteration fails to converge. That has to come from your study.
Practise with it open
Do every past paper with the booklet beside you, exactly as in the real exam.
Check what you remember
If a formula you have learned is also printed, use the printed version to check it before you rely on it.
Is the AQA A Level Maths formula booklet the same?
No. AQA A Level Mathematics (7357) has its own formulae booklet, listed on the front of every AQA paper. Its contents and layout differ from the Pearson booklet, so revise with the booklet for the board you will sit.
