About this course

Anti Money Laundering Training

You can do anti money laundering training online in the UK with Lift College's Anti Money Laundering Training course. It is 2 hours of learning in 6 short modules, covering what money laundering and terrorist financing are and the three stages criminals use, the offences in the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and the Terrorism Act 2000, what the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 require of regulated businesses, customer due diligence and enhanced checks, the red flags of suspicious activity, and how to report a suspicion to your nominated officer and on to the National Crime Agency. It costs £19.99, pay once, and your CPD certificate issued by Lift College is ready the same day you pass. Lift College recommends a refresh every 12 months, and the refresher is free.

Money laundering is how the proceeds of drug dealing, fraud, people trafficking, tax evasion and corruption are turned into money that looks clean. Criminals need businesses to do it: a bank account, a company formation, a property purchase, a solicitor's client account, a casino, a car dealer willing to take cash. Every member of staff who onboards a customer, takes a payment or handles a transaction is a potential gatekeeper, and the law treats them that way. In the regulated sector, failing to report a suspicion is itself a criminal offence, and the Financial Conduct Authority, HMRC, the Gambling Commission and the professional bodies fine firms whose staff were never trained.

This course covers what the law expects of you and your organisation. You learn how placement, layering and integration work, what the principal offences are and the penalties, who falls within the regulated sector, what a firm-wide risk assessment, policies, a nominated officer and record keeping look like in practice, how to verify a customer and their beneficial owners, when enhanced due diligence applies, the red flags that should make you stop and think, and how to make an internal report and a Suspicious Activity Report without tipping anyone off. It is written for staff and managers in businesses across the UK, whether or not your firm is in the regulated sector.

By the end you can
  • Explain what money laundering and terrorist financing are and describe the placement, layering and integration stages
  • Identify the principal money laundering offences in the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and the penalties for individuals and firms
  • Describe who the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 apply to and what they require of a regulated business
  • Carry out customer due diligence, including verifying identity and beneficial ownership, and recognise when enhanced due diligence applies
  • Recognise the red flags of suspicious activity in customers, transactions and payments
  • Apply your organisation's procedure for reporting a suspicion to the nominated officer and understand how a Suspicious Activity Report reaches the National Crime Agency
  • Explain the offences of failing to disclose and tipping off and how to avoid committing them
  • Describe the records a regulated business must keep and for how long

FAQ

Questions about Anti Money Laundering Training

Is online anti money laundering training valid?

Yes. The Money Laundering Regulations 2017 require regulated businesses to make relevant employees aware of the law and give them regular training in recognising and dealing with suspicious transactions. They do not say the training must be face to face. Your firm's nominated officer or compliance lead decides what training each role needs and keeps the record of it; this course gives you the knowledge and a certificate for that record.

Who needs anti money laundering training?

Anyone working in the regulated sector whose work touches customers or transactions: banking and payments, accountancy and bookkeeping, tax, legal services, trust and company services, estate and letting agency, high value dealing, casinos, art and cryptoasset businesses. Outside the regulated sector it is still good practice for anyone who takes payments or onboards customers, because the principal offences in the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 apply to everyone.

How often should anti money laundering training be done?

The 2017 Regulations say training must be regular and records kept, but do not fix an interval. Most supervisors and professional bodies expect it at induction and at least every year, and firms are asked to show the dates. Lift College recommends refreshing every 12 months, and the refresher is free.

What does this course not cover?

It does not write your firm-wide risk assessment or policies for you, and it does not cover the specific guidance of each supervisor or professional body in depth. It gives staff and managers the knowledge the law expects. Your nominated officer remains responsible for the firm's controls and for deciding whether to send a Suspicious Activity Report.

How do I report a suspicion of money laundering?

Tell your nominated officer or money laundering reporting officer straight away, following your firm's procedure, and record what you saw and when. Do not tell the customer or anyone outside the firm, because tipping off is an offence. The nominated officer decides whether to send a Suspicious Activity Report to the National Crime Agency and, if a transaction is pending, whether to request a defence against money laundering first. If your business has no nominated officer, a report can be made to the National Crime Agency directly.

How long do I keep access?

You keep your access for as long as Lift College offers the course, and never less than 3 years from the day you buy. Your certificate PDF is yours to keep.

What is the free refresher?

Lift College recommends refreshing this course every 12 months. When your date comes round, you can retake the latest version free and get a new certificate. We email you 30 days before.

Does it count towards my CPD?

Yes. The course is 2 hours of learning, shown on your CPD certificate issued by Lift College, so you can log the hours in your CPD record.

Can I get my money back?

Yes. Ask within 14 days of paying and we refund you in full.

Can my employer pay?

Yes. Your receipt shows the course, the date and the amount paid, and you can pass it to your employer. Buying for a team? Open a free organisation account: every course is £16.99, and you can pay by card or invoice with your PO.

Can my team do this course in another language?

Yes, on an organisation account with 10 or more places. Your team can study Anti Money Laundering Training in Polish, Romanian, Punjabi, Urdu or Welsh, prepared within 1 working day of your order. The final test and the certificate stay in the English course name, so the certificate is the one every employer recognises. Tell us the languages you need when you order or ask for a quote.
