What it unlocks

What Level 2 English and maths unlock

Together they clear the Level 2 requirement that most apprenticeships, nursing degrees and teacher training routes set.

Apprenticeships

Level 3 and higher apprenticeships in England require Level 2 English and maths before completion.

University and Access to HE

Accepted by most UK universities and Access to HE providers, including Lift College, in place of GCSE grade 4.

Teaching and childcare

Early Years Educator full-and-relevant status, teaching assistant posts and initial teacher training ask for both.

Nursing, NHS and public services

Nursing degrees, NHS support roles and the police accept Functional Skills Level 2 in both.

Requirements are set by each employer, university or apprenticeship standard and change; check the one you are applying for. Lift College does not publish salary figures for Functional Skills because the qualification is a requirement, not a role.

Externally set and marked by TQUK, on-screen with remote invigilation or at a TQUK-approved centre; paper-based available with ten working days' notice. Pass or fail; pass marks set per paper by TQUK. Unlimited resits (fee applies).

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I do Functional Skills English and Maths together?

Yes. This page is both Ofqual-regulated TQUK qualifications, studied together with a named UK tutor and certificated separately. You receive two certificates, one for English and one for maths. Each qualification is also available on its own if you only need one.

Are both qualifications GCSE-equivalent?

Yes, in the sense this page states. Both are accepted together in place of GCSE English and Maths grade 4, and the page prints RQF Level 2 as a GCSE grade 4 equivalent. They are Ofqual-regulated TQUK qualifications. Some destinations require GCSEs specifically.

Are the exams remote or at a centre?

Both. English and maths are on-screen with remote invigilation from home, or at a TQUK-approved centre. Paper-based entry is available with ten working days' notice. These Ofqual-regulated TQUK qualifications are pass or fail, and each is certificated separately. Pass marks are set by TQUK.

What does the price include?

One price covers the full course with every fee included: a named UK tutor, marking in 5 to 7 working days, AI Study Support, and your TQUK exam booked for you. There is nothing extra to pay.

What age do I need to be?

You need to be 16 or over. No formal entry requirements. TQUK sets no minimum age; the course is designed for learners 16 and over. Level 1 standard recommended before starting.

Can I pay annually?

Yes. Annual billing saves 15%: £611.99 for the year instead of £59.99 a month. The 7-day free trial and 14-day money back apply either way.

Do I get one certificate or two?

Two. English and Maths are separate TQUK qualifications with their own numbers and exams; you receive a certificate for each.

Is the combined course cheaper than taking them separately?

This page does not publish a price comparison with the separate courses. English and maths are two Ofqual-regulated TQUK qualifications, each with its own qualification number, studied together here and certificated separately. The page does not state a discount. Check each course page for its own price.

How fast can I complete both Level 2 qualifications?

Most learners take 4 to 8 months, studying 6 to 12 hours a week. Together these Ofqual-regulated TQUK qualifications have 110 guided learning hours. English and maths are certificated separately, and you sit each assessment when your tutor confirms you are ready.

Is this the qualification employers ask for?

These two qualifications are accepted together in place of GCSE English and Maths grade 4 by many apprenticeships, universities and employers. Some courses require GCSEs specifically. Check the one you are applying for.

What is Start now?

The default is a free 7-day trial with your first payment on day 8. If you would rather start now, you pay today instead and every payment is 15% lower for as long as you study. Your 14-day money-back guarantee still applies: change your mind for any reason within 14 days and we refund the full payment.

What comes after this?

Most people take both because an apprenticeship, a university place or a job asks for Level 2 English and maths together. Each qualification is also available on its own.

Who issues the certificate?

Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) issues the certificate. Lift College is a TQUK recognised centre.
