A-level Biology vs AS-level Biology: what is the difference?
AS-level Biology is a standalone Level 3 qualification covering roughly the first year of A-level content. It is graded A to E and carries UCAS tariff points on the standard AS tariff (A = 20, B = 16, C = 12, D = 10, E = 6). It is a separate qualification and does not count towards the full A-level grade.
Since the 2017 reforms, AS and A-level Biology are decoupled; sitting the AS does not contribute to your A-level result. Most students aiming for university now study the full two-year A-level rather than stopping at AS.
