Assessment

How you're assessed

The certificate is assessed by a portfolio of evidence. All six mandatory units are knowledge units, so you answer written assignments and workbook questions for each one. There are no exams and no workplace observations.

01Study the unit

Work through each unit online with examples and knowledge checks, with your named UK tutor and AI Study Support on hand.

02Complete your written work

Answer the assignment and workbook questions for the unit. The safeguarding unit uses case studies that we provide, so you do not need examples from a workplace.

03Get marked and feedback

Your tutor marks your work against each assessment criterion in 5 to 7 working days. If something is not yet met, you get feedback and resubmit.

04Receive your certificate

When all six units are passed, your work is quality assured and TQUK issues your certificate.

Lift College offers the six mandatory units, which make up the full 20-credit qualification. The optional units in the TQUK specification must be assessed in a real work setting, so they are not part of this course. Your work is internally assessed by Lift College tutors and externally quality assured by TQUK. The result is pass or fail.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the Level 2 Learning Disabilities certificate regulated?

Yes. The TQUK Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Working with and Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities (RQF) is regulated by Ofqual and is on the Ofqual register at Level 2, qualification number 610/0828/X. It is 20 credits, 162 guided learning hours and 200 hours total qualification time. Training Qualifications UK issues the certificate, and Lift College is a TQUK recognised centre.

How long does it take?

Many people take 3 to 6 months, studying a few hours a week. The qualification is 162 guided learning hours and 200 hours total qualification time across six units. There is no timetable, so you move on as soon as each unit is marked.

How is it assessed?

By a portfolio of written assignments and workbook questions for each of the six mandatory units. Your named UK tutor marks your work, Lift College quality assures it internally and TQUK quality assures it externally. The result is pass or fail.

Are there any exams?

No. There are no exams, no timed tests and no workplace observations. Everything is written work you complete online.

What are the entry requirements?

You need to be 16 or over, and you need to be able to read and write in English, because the course is taught and assessed in English. You do not need any previous qualification or experience to start.

What does it cost?

One price covers the whole course: your named UK tutor, marking, AI Study Support, your TQUK registration and your TQUK certificate. You can pay monthly or in full, and the prices are shown on this page. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial and is covered by our 14-day money back guarantee. Paying today, it is £29.99 a month or £269.99 in full. After the 7-day free trial, it is £39.99 a month or £399.99 in full.

Can my employer pay?

Yes. Your employer can open an organisation account with Lift College, add you and any colleagues, and pay by card or by invoice with their own PO number. Organisation accounts get 10% off every qualification against the price one person pays, and managers can see each learner's progress. An organisation place is £359.99, 10% off the £399.99 price, paid by invoice.

What can I do after this qualification?

You could move into or up in a support worker role, or go on to the TQUK Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care or a Level 3 certificate in supporting individuals with learning disabilities. This is a knowledge qualification: it shows you understand how to support people with learning disabilities, and it does not on its own qualify you for a particular post. Employers decide what each role needs and will usually add their own induction and training.

Why does the course include only the mandatory units?

The six mandatory units make up the full 20-credit qualification, so you receive the complete TQUK certificate. The specification also lists optional units, but most of those must be assessed by observation in a real job, and they add nothing to the certificate title. We have left them out so you can complete the whole course online.

Does the course cover autism?

Yes. One of the six mandatory units is Awareness of autistic spectrum conditions. It covers autism as a spectrum, the areas where autistic people may face challenges, and how to communicate well and support each person.

Do I need to work in care to take this course?

No. All six units are knowledge units, so you can take the course before you start a care or support job, alongside a job in another sector, or as a family carer.

Is it useful for teaching assistants?

Yes. TQUK says the qualification suits education support roles such as teaching assistants and pastoral staff, as well as health and social care roles. The safeguarding unit includes support for children with learning disabilities as well as adults.

What is the difference between a learning disability and a learning difficulty?

A learning disability affects how a person understands information and manages everyday life, and it is lifelong. A specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, affects one kind of learning but not general intellectual ability. This course is about learning disability. Lift College also offers a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties.
