Assessment

How you're assessed

This is a knowledge qualification assessed by a portfolio of evidence. You complete written assignments and workbook questions for each unit, your Lift tutor marks them against the TQUK assessment criteria, and TQUK externally quality assures the results. The result is pass or fail, and there are no exams.

01Study the unit

Work through the unit online on your phone, tablet or laptop, with your named UK tutor and AI Study Support on hand when something is not clear.

02Write your answers

Complete the written assignment and workbook questions for the unit in your own words, drawing on examples from work or home where it helps.

03Feedback and resubmit

Your tutor marks your work in 5 to 7 working days and gives written feedback. If a criterion is not yet met, you add to your answer and resubmit at no extra cost.

04Your TQUK certificate

When every unit is passed, Lift College claims your certificate from TQUK. Registration and certification are included in the price.

All four units are knowledge units, so you do not need a job, a placement or anyone to observe you. The certificate shows your understanding of autism; it does not on its own qualify you for a particular role or to diagnose autism, and each employer decides what a post needs.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the Understanding Autism Level 2 certificate regulated?

Yes. The TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism (RQF) is on the Ofqual register at Level 2, qualification number 603/2942/7. It is 17 credits, 155 guided learning hours and 171 hours total qualification time. TQUK issues the certificate, and Lift College is a TQUK recognised centre.

How long does it take?

Many learners finish in 3 to 6 months. The qualification is 155 guided learning hours and 171 hours in total once your own reading and writing time is included. There is no timetable and no fixed exam date, so you move on to the next unit as soon as your work is marked.

How is it assessed?

By a portfolio of evidence. For each unit you complete written assignments and workbook questions, your Lift tutor marks them against the TQUK assessment criteria, and TQUK externally quality assures the results. Every learning outcome must be met, and the result is pass or fail.

Are there any exams?

No. There are no exams and no timed tests. Every unit is assessed through the written work in your portfolio, and if a piece needs more work your tutor tells you what to add and you resubmit.

What are the entry requirements?

You need to be 16 or over. The course and all of the assessments are in English, so you need to be able to read and write in English.

What does it cost?

One price covers the whole qualification: every unit, your named UK tutor, marking and written feedback, AI Study Support, your TQUK registration and your TQUK certificate. You can pay monthly or in full, and the current prices are shown on this page. You can start with a 7-day free trial, and the 14-day money back guarantee applies either way. Paying today, it is £29.99 a month or £269.99 in full. After the 7-day free trial, it is £39.99 a month or £399.99 in full.

Can my employer pay?

Yes. Employers can open an organisation account with Lift College, enrol one or more members of staff and pay by invoice, and organisation accounts get 10% off. If you would rather keep it separate from work, you can pay for yourself and study in your own time. An organisation place is £359.99, 10% off the £399.99 price, paid by invoice.

What can I do after this qualification?

You can use the certificate in the role you have now, or as evidence of your understanding when you apply for teaching assistant, care or support roles. If you want to go further in the subject, the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism is the next step. TQUK also names the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Behaviour that Challenges, and Level 3 qualifications in adult care, healthcare support and early years, as progression routes.

Is this an autism awareness course?

It covers everything an autism awareness course does and goes further. Short autism awareness courses usually take a few hours and give a CPD certificate. This is a regulated TQUK qualification of 155 guided learning hours across four units, assessed by written work marked against national criteria, and it appears on the Ofqual register.

What is the difference between Level 2 and Level 3 Understanding Autism?

Level 2 builds the foundations: autistic traits, the dyad of impairments, sensory experience, family and environment, and good practice in support. Level 3 is five units and 190 hours in total, and asks for more depth. It adds the history of autism research, the role of interventions, your own duty to safeguard, encouraging communication and social interaction, interpreting behaviour and planning proactive and reactive support, and how the media and society shape autistic people's lives. If you are new to autism, start at Level 2.

Will this course let me diagnose autism?

No. Autism is diagnosed by qualified clinicians after a formal assessment. The course explains why a professional diagnosis matters and what the process involves, so you can support someone before, during and after it, but it does not train you to assess or diagnose.

Can parents take this autism course?

Yes. Many parents and family members take it to understand their child or relative better. You do not need to work with autistic people, and you can draw on family life in your answers as long as you keep details private.

Do I need to work in a school or care setting?

No. Every unit is a knowledge unit assessed through written work, so there is no placement and no workplace observation. Examples from work help but are not required.
