What learners say about Lift College
Questions about Food Hygiene Level 1
How long does a food hygiene certificate last?
The law does not set an end date for a food hygiene certificate. Lift College recommends refreshing every 3 years, or sooner if your role or the rules change. Your certificate shows a recommended refresh by date.
Do I need Level 1 or Level 2 food hygiene?
Level 1 suits front-of-house and low-risk roles, such as serving, clearing or selling wrapped food. If you prepare, cook or handle open food, take Food Hygiene Level 2. Your employer can tell you which level they expect.
Do I need a food hygiene certificate to work with food?
The law requires food handlers to be supervised and instructed or trained in food hygiene to suit their work. Your employer decides how you are trained. A certificate gives you a clear record of what you learned and when.
Is online food hygiene training valid?
Your employer decides what training you need. GOV.UK guidance for food businesses says training can come from courses, on-the-job instruction, self-study or relevant past experience. Your certificate records your hours and completion date.
Who is Food Hygiene Level 1 for?
It is for people who work around food but do not prepare open food. That includes waiting staff, bar staff, kitchen porters, cleaners, retail staff and volunteers.
How long do I keep access?
You keep your access for as long as Lift College offers the course, and never less than 3 years from the day you buy. Your certificate PDF is yours to keep.
