Understanding which awarding body to choose — and why employer recognition matters — is important before you enrol on a management qualification. This page explains CMI and ILM in detail, how they compare to other awarding organisations, and what employer recognition means in practice for your career.
What is CMI (Chartered Management Institute)?
The Chartered Management Institute is the professional body for management and leadership in the UK and Ireland. Founded in 1947 and granted a royal charter in 2002, CMI is the only management body in the UK with chartered status. This means CMI can award the Chartered Manager (CMgr) designation — the highest professional management credential in the UK, equivalent to chartership in law, accountancy, or engineering.
