Which online bullying and harassment certificate do UK employers accept?

Your employer decides the training your workplace needs, based on its own assessment of its risks and its policies on conduct at work. When you hand over a certificate, employers look for:

  1. A clear record. The certificate names the course, the hours of learning, the completion date and a recommended refresh date.
  2. A way to check it. A unique certificate number and a verification link let a manager or HR team confirm it in seconds.
  3. Content that follows current UK law and guidance. For bullying and harassment, that means harassment under section 26 of the Equality Act 2010, employer liability under section 109, the employer's general duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and Acas guidance on bullying at work.
  4. Regular refreshing. A recommended refresh date keeps knowledge current and gives your employer a date to plan around.

Lift College's certificate does each of these. It is a PDF issued the same day you pass. It names Bullying and Harassment Training, shows 2 hours of learning, your completion date and a recommended refresh date 3 years later, and carries a unique certificate number and a verification link.

What the Lift College course covers

Bullying wears people down. Constant criticism, exclusion or being put down in meetings can affect health, work and confidence. The course covers the wider picture of behaviour at work: what bullying and harassment look like, how they differ, when harassment breaks the Equality Act 2010, and how to raise or handle a concern. There are 5 short modules, each followed by a knowledge check:

  1. What bullying looks like. Offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, and misuse of power. Everyday examples, including on social media.
  2. When harassment is unlawful. Harassment under the Equality Act 2010 and the protected characteristics it covers, and why intent does not decide whether it is harassment.
  3. Bullying or firm management. How to tell fair feedback and performance management apart from behaviour that undermines or humiliates.
  4. Raising a concern. Keeping records, talking to the person, raising it informally and making a formal grievance, with the Acas Code of Practice on grievances.
  5. Handling a complaint well. What managers should do when someone raises bullying or harassment: acting quickly, staying fair to everyone and preventing repeat behaviour.

The final test is multiple choice, 80% to pass, with unlimited free retakes.

The law and guidance it is written around

  • Equality Act 2010, section 26. Harassment is unwanted conduct related to age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation that has the purpose or effect of violating someone's dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment. It also covers conduct of a sexual nature.
  • Equality Act 2010, section 109. Employers are liable for harassment by their staff in the course of employment, unless they show they took all reasonable steps to prevent it.
  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, section 2. "It shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable," the health, safety and welfare at work of all their employees.
  • Acas guidance on bullying at work. Acas says: "There is no specific law against bullying." Under the Equality Act 2010, bullying can be unlawful discrimination, including harassment, if it relates to a protected characteristic. Acas says employers should try to prevent bullying and take any complaint seriously.
