Bullying and Harassment Training
Bullying wears people down. Constant criticism, exclusion or being put down in meetings can affect health, work and confidence. Acas says there is no specific law against bullying, but it can still be unlawful harassment.
This course covers the wider picture of behaviour at work. You learn what bullying and harassment look like, how they differ and when harassment breaks the Equality Act 2010. Questions about Bullying and Harassment Training
Is bullying illegal in the UK?
Acas says there is no specific law against bullying. Bullying can be unlawful harassment if it is related to a protected characteristic, such as age, disability or race. Employers should still do all they can to prevent it.
What is the difference between bullying and harassment?
Bullying is offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, or a misuse of power. Harassment under the Equality Act 2010 is unwanted conduct related to a protected characteristic, or of a sexual nature.
Is strict management the same as bullying?
Not always. Fair feedback and reasonable performance management are part of work. The course helps you tell them apart from behaviour that undermines, humiliates or harms someone.
What should I do if I am being bullied at work?
Keep a record of what happened, when and who saw it. If you feel able, talk to the person or raise it with your manager or HR. If that does not work, you can raise a formal grievance.
How is this different from Sexual Harassment Training?
This course covers wider workplace behaviour, including bullying and all forms of harassment. Sexual Harassment Training focuses on sexual harassment and the employer's specific legal duty to prevent it.
