Asbestos Awareness Training
HSE says asbestos can be present in any building built or refurbished before 2000, and causes around 5000 deaths every year. The diseases it causes take a long time to develop, so the damage done today shows up years later.
This course covers what regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 expects at awareness level. It is for people whose work could disturb asbestos, such as trades, maintenance staff and caretakers. You learn where asbestos is found, how it harms health and exactly what to do if you suspect or disturb it.
- Explain what asbestos is and why it is dangerous
- Name the main asbestos-related diseases and the added risk from smoking
- Recognise where asbestos may be found in buildings and plant
- Check the asbestos register or survey before starting work
- Stop work and report if you suspect asbestos
- Follow emergency procedures if asbestos is accidentally disturbed
- Explain how to avoid the risk of exposure
6 short modules, 2 hours in total.
