About this course

Safeguarding Adults and Children Training

Keeping Children Safe in Education puts it simply: safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Abuse and neglect are often noticed first by someone who is not a specialist. It might be a receptionist, a driver, a cleaner or a volunteer. What that person does next matters.

This course covers the safeguarding basics for work with both children and adults. You learn the main types of abuse and neglect, the signs to look for, and how to respond when someone tells you something. You also learn how to record and report a concern, and where Prevent fits in. It takes about two hours, and you finish with a CPD certificate issued by Lift College.

By the end you can
  • Explain what safeguarding means for children and for adults at risk
  • Recognise the main types of abuse and neglect and their signs
  • Respond calmly and safely when a child or adult discloses abuse
  • Record what you saw or heard accurately, in the person's own words
  • Report a concern to the right person without delay
  • Recognise exploitation, online harm and radicalisation as safeguarding issues
  • Know when to call 999 because someone is in immediate danger

FAQ

Questions about Safeguarding Adults and Children Training

What is the difference between safeguarding children and safeguarding adults?

The aim is the same: keep people safe from abuse and neglect. The law differs. Children are protected mainly under the Children Acts 1989 and 2004. Adults at risk are protected under the Care Act 2014 in England. This course covers both.

Who needs safeguarding training?

Your employer decides what training you need. Keeping Children Safe in Education says safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. This course covers what anyone who meets children or adults at work should know.

Is online safeguarding training valid?

Your employer decides what training your role needs. This course covers the safeguarding knowledge every worker should have, and your CPD certificate issued by Lift College shows the hours you completed.

What should I do if someone tells me they are being abused?

Listen, stay calm and take them seriously. Do not promise to keep it secret. Write down what they said in their own words and report it to your safeguarding lead straight away. If they are in immediate danger, call 999.

Should I take this course or a Level 2 or Level 3 course?

This course is a broad introduction for anyone. If you work regularly with children or adults at risk, Level 2 goes deeper. Level 3 is for people who help assess and act on concerns. Check with your employer.

How long do I keep access?

You keep your access for as long as Lift College offers the course, and never less than 3 years from the day you buy. Your certificate PDF is yours to keep.

What is the free refresher?

Lift College recommends refreshing this course every 3 years. When your date comes round, you can retake the latest version free and get a new certificate. We email you 30 days before.
