Applies in England and Wales. The responsible person must give employees adequate fire safety training when they start and when risks change. It is repeated periodically where appropriate (article 21). Employees must take reasonable care and report serious dangers (article 23).

Is online fire safety training valid?
Your employer decides what training you need. This course covers the fire safety knowledge the law expects every worker to have. Your employer will also show you the fire procedures for your own building.
How often should fire safety training be done?
The law says training must be given when you start, when risks change, and repeated periodically where appropriate. Lift College recommends refreshing every 12 months, and the refresher is free.
What should I do if I discover a fire at work?
Raise the alarm straight away and follow your workplace fire procedure. Leave by the nearest safe exit, call 999 if your procedure says to, go to the assembly point and never use a lift.
Which fire safety law applies to my workplace?
In England and Wales it is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Scotland has the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005. Northern Ireland has the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010.
