About this course

Manual Handling Training

You can do manual handling training online in the UK with Lift College. Manual Handling Training is 3 hours of learning in 5 short modules, each with a knowledge check, for £19.99, pay once. Your accredited CPD certificate is ready the same day you pass. We recommend a refresh every 3 years, and the refresher is free.

Lifting a box, pushing a trolley or moving stock looks simple. Done badly, day after day, it can injure your back, shoulders and arms. The law expects employers to avoid hazardous manual handling where they can, assess what remains and reduce the risk.

This course covers what the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 expect workers to know. You learn the avoid, assess, reduce approach, the TILEO factors behind every assessment and a step-by-step lifting technique. You also learn how to use the safe systems your employer puts in place.

By the end you can
  • Explain what manual handling is and how injuries happen
  • Describe the avoid, assess, reduce approach in the regulations
  • Use the TILEO factors to think through a handling task
  • Plan a lift before you start
  • Apply good handling technique when lifting and putting down loads
  • Use the safe systems of work and equipment your employer provides
  • Know when to stop and ask for help

Which online manual handling certificate do employers accept?

Your employer decides the manual handling training your workplace needs, based on its own risk assessment of the tasks you do. A good certificate records the course, the hours of learning, the completion date and a refresh date, and it can be verified. The content should follow the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and the training should be refreshed on schedule. Lift College's course and certificate do each of these. The certificate records 3 hours of learning, your completion date and a recommended refresh-by date, with a unique certificate number and a verification link. The course is written around those three sets of rules, and the refresher every 3 years is free. Comparing providers? See our guide to manual handling training online in the UK.

“My employer was clear, I needed GCSE English to move into a supervisory role. Lift College helped me find the right exam board and an exam centre five minutes from home. Passed grade 4. Got the promotion.”

“My employer needed me to have Level 2 maths before they could register me on the Level 3 apprenticeship programme. Lift College was fast, the tutor was brilliant, and I resit my maths once after a near-miss and passed the second time. The whole thing took twelve weeks.”
