International A Levels
A Levels for international students in the UK
International students can take A Levels from the UK online with Lift College. International A Levels are open to anyone aged 14 or over with no formal entry qualifications. You study online with a named UK tutor and travel to one of nine Tutors & Exams centres in England for each exam series: January, May/June and October.
Taking A Levels from outside the UK
You can study online from anywhere with a named UK tutor, but the exams are sat in person in England, so you travel to a centre for each exam series. Lift College's International A Levels run in the January, May/June and October series, and its UK A Levels are sat in May and June. Both are open to anyone aged 14 or over with no formal entry requirements.
Who can enrol, including from overseas
- Anyone aged 14 or over. Under 18s enrol with a parent or guardian's permission and support, and the parent holds the account.
- No formal entry qualifications.
- Adults of any age, including those returning to study after a break.
- Learners overseas, who need to travel to a centre in England for each exam series.
Recommended grades
These are recommended, not required. The first unit of each course revises what you need.
| Subject | Recommended starting point |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | Grade 6 or above at GCSE or International GCSE Mathematics, or equivalent |
| Biology | Grade 6 or above at GCSE or International GCSE Biology, Combined Science or Double Award Science, or equivalent |
| Chemistry | Grade 6 or above in Chemistry, Combined Science or Double Award Science, and confidence with GCSE level maths |
| Physics | Grade 6 or above in Physics, Combined Science or Double Award Science, and grade 6 or above in Mathematics |
What you need
- A computer, tablet or phone with internet access.
- For Mathematics, a scientific calculator (not one with symbolic algebra, differentiation or integration), a ruler and a protractor. The Pearson formulae booklet is provided in every exam.
- Around 6 to 8 hours a week. Most learners finish in 18 to 24 months, or faster with more study each week.
Entering as a private candidate
If you study outside a school, you are a private candidate. Pearson says the centre that accepts you makes your entry and you pay it any exam fees, and you tell the centre about any access arrangements you need.
On the +Exams plan, Lift College makes all six unit entries and your final cash-in, and books each seat at a Tutors & Exams centre. On the Study plan, you book directly with a centre and pay its published fee. Exams run in the January, May/June and October series.
Exam centres and access arrangements
Nine Tutors & Exams centres in England are approved for International A Levels: Birmingham, Bolton, Coventry, High Wycombe, Mitcham, Newcastle, Romford, St Neots and Taunton. Extra time, a reader or scribe, rest breaks or a separate room are arranged by Tutors & Exams' in-house SEN team, free at the point of delivery, with evidence of your normal way of working. Home educating families can read private candidates for home educators.
