International A Levels

Pearson International A Levels

In short

Pearson International A Levels are Level 3 qualifications set, marked and awarded by Pearson Edexcel, the UK awarding body that also offers UK A Levels. They are regulated by Pearson rather than Ofqual, UK NARIC confirmed in November 2017 that they meet the UK A level standard, and they are graded A* to E.

Pearson as the awarding body

Pearson Edexcel writes the specifications, sets and marks the unit papers, and issues results and certificates. UCAS records that the qualification is not regulated by Ofqual and does not appear on the Register of Regulated Qualifications. Pearson describes International A Levels as regulated by Pearson and confirmed by UK NARIC as comparable to UK A level standard.

Pearson says the same standards apply to all its qualifications, and that International A Levels are accepted as equivalent to GCE A levels on a grade for grade basis for university admission.

Series, units and resits

At Lift College, unit exams run in the January, May/June and October series. Each unit is examined separately and unit results are added together for the overall subject grade, a step called cash-in. You can resit individual units, and Pearson says resits are not shown on the results statement. On Lift College's +Exams plan, your unit entries and final cash-in are booked for you.

Pearson International A Levels and UK A Levels

Pearson awards both. The UK A Level is linear and regulated by Ofqual; the International A Level is modular and regulated by Pearson. Our guide International A Levels vs A Levels compares the two in full, including practical endorsement and UCAS points.
